Colitis – CT

Colitis – CT

Colitis. This 42 year old patient presented with PR bleeding and abdominal pain. Coronal CT shows marked  thickening and oedema in the wall of the descending colon (arrows), consistent with colitis. Biopsy showed that this was ulcerative colitis, however infection and ischaemia could have an identical appearance on CT.
