Pneumomediastinum

Pneumomediastinum. Gas in the mediastinum (outlined by the arrows in this case) can come from the oesophagus, airways or lungs. It can result from blunt or penetrating trauma, asthma or oesophageal perforation, among other causes. Identifying this should prompt a careful search for a pneumothorax, as the two often coexist.
