Inferior shoulder dislocation

Inferior shoulder dislocation

Glenohumeral dislocation. The majority (90%) of shoulder dislocations are anterior, while most of the rest are posterior. A tiny percentage are inferior, and result in a very painful situation where the humeral head is stuck under the glenoid, and the patient’s arm is stuck raised above their head. This is illustrated in the example shown here, and is also known as ‘luxatio erecta’.
